Objects of Pride- घर (Home), Light Emitting Diode box, sight specific installation, 60.96x30.48x30.48cm, 2016
While conversing with the members from the migrating farmers who worked as labours at construction sites in Surat, dialogues related to the idea of home and shelter was frequent. A question which I regularly asked the community members was regarding what they would name their space of
inhabitance. The answers which I received were on the lines of - ‘a home is a home even if it’s temporary’. This conversation lead towards this site
specific installation. An L.E.D light box in which the word “Ghar” (home) was written and was installed in Leela ben’s shelter (member of the community). The L.E.D sign was part of the cityscape throughout the time the community inhabited the space.
